 | Introduction The
purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers
who are engaged in the fire stopping of fire rated structures using the Astro
LUMI Canopy. All service holes through floors, ceilings and
compartment walls must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and
hot gases. The key points for passive fire protection
products are :-

        - Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building
by containing it in the compartment of origin.

 - Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.

 - Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.

 - Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation
        channels.

 Luminaire
canopies are designed to specifically stop the passage of smoke and fire through
a fire rated ceiling, where recessed downlights are fitted. Tests
have shown that, without the canopy in place, fire and smoke would penetrate through
the recessed light fitting in seconds spreading into the void or room above endangering
both lives and property. The Astro Lumi Canopy will provide
60 minutes protection by completely containing the fire and smoke within the cover, whilst
at the same time allowing the heat from the light fitting to dissipate through
the cover Fully tested to BS Standard 476 part 20 & 23
clause 5 The Astro Lumi Canopy also meets the requirements of class 0 materials Key
