Pioneered by engineering greats such as British inventor Joseph Swan in the mid-1800’s
and later developed commercially by the American inventor Thomas Edison,
what is often referred to today as the Carbon Filament lamp was developed.

In their day these lamps were seen as purely functional,
but today the vintage look of the filament has timeless appeal
and is used extensively in much of the photography within our collection.
