The NICEIC Electrical Installation Certificate is to be used for the initial certification of a new installation, or new work associated with an addition or alteration to an existing installation, including the replacement of a distribution board (or consumer unit), carried out in accordance with BS 7671: 2018 (as amended).

Examples of where this certificate may be used include the addition of a socket-outlet or a lighting point to an existing circuit.
This Certificate may also be used for the replacement of equipment such as accessories or luminaires, but not for the replacement of distribution boards or similar items.
